Sarah Junkin
Iyengar-Based Yoga Teacher

Sarah Junkin has had a profound interest in yoga as a life philosophy since her early university education in the United States in 1998 when she was running on an athletic scholarship and learned yoga poses with a friend out of a book given to her as a gift. An infrequent practice began for several years until a fateful day when she was attending a yoga class for a Kinesiology course at University of Saskatchewan, led by Patricia Dewar at Yoga Central studio. Sarah was drawn to this style of teaching and her curiosity led to dedication.

Sarah has now been practicing and teaching yoga regularly for the past five years. In January 2009 she completed the three-year Yoga Central teacher training program and attained Yoga Alliance 200-hour certification. Sarah continues to study with international yoga instructors Donald Moyer, Mary Lou Weprin, and Gay White at the Yoga Room in Berkeley, CA, and with Lynne Minton from Anchorage, AK. These experiences help to sustain, develop, and nourish her practice and her understanding of the complexity of the body.

Sarah has an extensive background in Kinesiology (movement science) having completed her Masters degree in exercise psychology in 2007, and has worked with many group in the community from seniors to high performance athletes. Sarah has taught yoga classes for beginners, multi-level, restorative, parent & tot, pre-natal, and with athletes from a variety of sports and activities such as running, fencing, pole vault, and rowing. Sarah hopes her teachings allow students to find quiet mental focus, body awareness (and anatomy), breath, and kindness on and off the mat.

Sarah’s classes provide an exploration for students to become in touch with the inner body, and to develop a feeling sense for how sequencing changes how the body feels. Class time integrates asana (yoga postures), mini-vini (flow sequences), and on the body and the breath.
