Patricia’s Approach to Iyengar-Based Yoga
“When the body is cleansed, the mind purified and the senses controlled, (then) joyful awareness needed to realize the inner self also comes.”
BKS Iyengar

Patricia began her study of yoga in 1990 and continues to study and be inspired by yoga teachers in the Iyengar tradition. She is a graduate of the Advanced Studies Program at the Yoga Room in Berkeley, California led by Donald Moyer and Mary Lou Weprin. She is also deeply appreciative of her training with Fr Joe Pereira (Founder of the International Kripa foundation,) Judith Lasater (Relax and Renew) Gert Van Leeuwen (Critical Alignment Therapy) Lynne Minton and others.
Patricia Dewar’s teachings focus on awakening the inner body: alignment of the internal organs, space in the joints and balance between release and extension. Listening to a subtlety of sensations encourages the student to achieve lightness and ease in each pose, and even more importantly teaches the student to address issues of discomfort with “right action.” Accordingly yoga is taught as a practice that occurs both on and off the mat. This method of teaching requires detailed preparations and careful sequencing of poses.
Patricia is committed to students understanding the depth of yoga and is inspired by her students and the transformation that yoga brings to everyday life. She has a keen interest in making yoga accessible to all.
Currently Patricia gives classes, workshops, retreats and teaches individual private classes on request.
